Misconceptions About Wedding Cakes!

I'm going to start this blog today by making a somewhat ironic statement.  Do not believe everything you read on the internet.  Funny huh?  And you are probably thinking, "hello captain obvious!"  But, seriously, don't.  What's the first thing you did when you started wedding planning...you hopped on google right?  Maybe your first search was "how to plan a wedding" or "how to make a budget" or "first steps to wedding planning."  Well, not every wedding article that popped up is true.  There are two statements that have filtered through the internet and into the mind of brides that are completely false! 

1. "Order a fake cake for the display and then order sheet cakes for the kitchen to cut as a way to cut cost" - False.  When you do this you are basically now ordering two cakes.  You are still ordering the same amount of cake so the hard supplies and labor will still cost the same, but you are adding the additional costs of the fake cake plus the additional labor of the fake cake.  Therefore, you are basically ordering two cakes.
   
2. "Order a small cake to display and sheet cakes in the back."  Now, if you are ordering a very extravagant cake with a large amount of adornments, fondant, and sugar flowers (read: up charges) then yes, this will save you money.  But, if you are going to go into all the expense and time of such an extravagant cake, why make it tiny?  That would completely take away from the grandeur of the cake.  A slice of cake is a slice of cake, no matter if you are cutting it from a sheet cake in the kitchen or a tiered cake in the reception venue.  The costs will still be the same as the number of total servings are the same, as is the labor.  
   

Make sure not to take every article circulating the web as gospel truth.  If you read something and are curious of it's validity, check with your baker.  But make sure it's accurate before you start planning on those money saving tips.
